87% of marketers use video in their marketing.
And while you don’t want to do something just because everyone else is doing it…
...If you’re not using video, you could be left in the dust by your competitors who are using video.
Unfortunately, video can be an intimidating thing to tackle if you have no experience creating videos.
I get it. I’m not a video producer. And neither was Jay Moore, AWeber’s own video producer, who joined me on the latest episode of The FWD: Thinking Show to share his wisdom with entrepreneurs thinking about trying video for the very first time.
And if you’re still wondering if you have what it takes to create incredible videos, let Jay be the first to assure you if you have a smartphone and something to say, you already have everything you need.
Want to learn how? Read on.
Why you should be using video in your marketing
Video marketing is only growing in popularity. A few years ago it was ‘nice to have.’ It’s now become a ‘need to have.’ For a few reasons…
- People want to consume video content. Video is the most requested kind of content people want to see from businesses they support.
- It works. Video on landing pages has the power to increase conversion rates by 80%.
- Mentioning video in your email subject line can increase open rates by 19%.
Plus, videos can be repurposed from content you already created. That means saving time and effort while reaching a wider audience.

4 Things to ask before creating your first video
Should all businesses use video in their marketing?
Video has a place for any business.
Assess whether it’s right for you by thinking about the channels that you use to talk to your audience now. Where does video fit in?
What are your goals with video marketing?
Before jumping into a new marketing channel, analyze what you ultimately want to accomplish with video marketing.
Do you want to build a relationship with your audience through video? Are you driving them to take a certain action? Or, do you want to evoke a certain feeling?
Knowing what your goal is will help you come up with topic ideas and figure out the best way to approach creating your first video.
What channels should you promote video?
Whether you want to create video for YouTube, your website, social media channels, blog posts, or somewhere else, don’t overwhelm yourself with too many channels to begin with.
Start where you already are. You don’t need to create video for every single channel. But start where you are, learn as you go, and test different channels over time.
What’s the first step to creating amazing video content?
Jay says the first step is: don’t panic. A lot of what you already have in your day to day life can be used to create videos.
All you need is a smartphone to record — they have a great starter microphone and cameras.
The technical side of creating videos can feel intimidating, but it’s actually pretty simple. Check out Jay’s recommended tools below.
