At AWeber, our customers invest in us for a bright future, so we wanted to do the same for our community. What better way to do that than through education?
We want to make sure that our future generations have access to higher education. That’s why we not only invite students onto our campus to learn more about the industry, but we also encourage them to write a scholarship essay so they have the chance to invest in their future.
This year we challenged students to brainstorm and the winner was rewarded with $1,000 (now that’s a good investment) by answering the following questions:
- How have communications tools and habits changed from your parent’s generation, compared to yours? Has this been a positive, negative, or neutral change and why?
- How do you think communication tools and habits will change for your children? Will this be a positive, negative, or neutral change and why?
We were thrilled with all the fantastic submissions we received and are proud to announce this year’s annual AWeber scholarship winner…hold applause till the end…
Elisabeth Sorensen! (We’d say she’s too cool for school, but Southern Utah University is lucky to have her.)
It’s hard to stand out in a sky full of a thousand essays, but Elisabeth’s was the shining star. She spoke to the negative aspects of rapidly growing technology and the importance of face-to-face interactions, something her parents could relate to.
In her essay, she stated, “Some say we have lost the art of face-to-face communication with every new digital communication tool. I hope we can teach our children to play in the sun, not just virtually.” Elisabeth also mentioned the positive aspects of advancing technology, such as the way it allows us to help people more quickly during emergencies.

“‘With great power comes great responsibility” is a saying I think we all could live by,” Elisabeth added. “If we have the power to help someone in need, we must take that responsibility. This is one of the many reasons I have chosen to become an athletic trainer. I want to make a difference in people’s lives and be my own kind of superhero.”
And that’s a great example to follow.
Elisabeth is an avid outdoors explorer and enjoys taking her dog along on expeditions. That passion for adventure attributed to her love of Spiderman.
Congratulations, Elisabeth, and best of luck to your dreams of becoming an athletic trainer!
